Green Lantern News!!!

A few days ago we talked about the possibility that Anton Yelchin was in the running to play Green Lantern. This came from the generally very reliable Latino Review, although it was definitely classified as rumor.

Well today IESB.net reports that they got the latest right from Yelchin himself, and it’s good news for Green Lantern fans.

According to the good folks over there Yelchin had this to say in regards to rumors that he had auditioned for the role of Green Lantern:

“I had no idea about that…I have no clue.” He continued, “I have no idea. I think I’m probably too young. I mean, no one has approached me. No one has said anything to me. I imagine I’m just too young. I mean, it’s a great character but i don’t know anything about it…I haven’t heard anything about it.”

So there you have it, Green Lantern fans. It seems that Latino Review was mistaken and Anton Yelchin is NOT in the running to play Hal Jordan.

Thundercats Movie trailer

For those out their who have been eagerly awaiting for the upcoming Thundercats movie to arrive, we have a special holiday treat for you: the first trailer for Thundercats is here!

Ok… if you’re the type who reads the headings of these posts before the actual article, then you (should) already know that what has actually had people across Web yelling “Ho!” recently (aside from all the digital pimps out there trying to earn Xmas bonuses), is in fact a fan-made Thundercats trailer, which is…pretty entertaining.

The “trailer” was made by San Francisco graphic artist WormyTV, the same artist responsible for past photoshop classics like The Dark Knight teaser (which featured the first “real” image of Heath Ledger as the Joker), and the now infamous Spider-Man 3 gif (which featured the first “real” image of Venom).

According to Wormy, Thundercats: Sword of Omens took a year and a half to produce. The trailer splices together an array of identifiable films, including Aliens, Troy, The Chronicles of Riddick, Garfield, Spy Kids, X-Men: The Last Stand, Galaxy Quest, Underworld, Planet of the Apes, Mortal Kombat Annihilation, Stargate, and (what looks to be) Mad Max.

It’s impressive mashup of clips; add to that the painstaking frame by frame photoshop work needed to transform Brad Pitt into Lion-O, Hugh Jackman into Tigra, and Vin Diesel into Panthro…Let’s just say that Wormy deserves serious props for this (highly amusing) achievement.

On the real side of things, Thundercats is still slated as a 2010 release. No confirmation yet on whether it will be a CGI film as first rumored, or if the project is moving in a new direction. We’ll keep you posted.

But while his predecessors were national heroes, he is a pariah among the citizens he protects, who bitterly complain about the noise and destruction of property he causes. And Daisato has his own problems – an agent insistent on branding him with sponsor advertisements, an Alzheimer-afflicted grandfather who transforms into a giant in dirty underwear, and a family who is embarrassed by his often cowardly exploits. A wickedly deadpan spin on the giant Japanese superhero, "Big Man Japan" is an outrageous portrait of a pathetic but truly unique hero.

Third Narnia Film Gets A Release Date

Just over a month after the news that Fox had saved the Narnia franchise by coming on-board to co-finance it, we get the release date for the third film:

December 10th, 2010

This will see the franchise return to its original winter release date: The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe was released on December 9th, 2005 but for some reason they decided to change that up for the second film, which came out on May 16th 2008 - and made only $141 million (which was only about half what the first one made).

Is that a sign that established franchises are better released where there is no other competition? After all the same thing happened with the Harry Potter franchise - they normally were released in November each year and when they tried to change that and release a couple in the summer at least one of them didn’t make as much money (the fifth flick Order of the Phoenix made the most of any of the sequels worldwide even being released in July, but that was due to the book rather than the release date).

I’ll bet you Walden Media were thanking their lucky stars Fox stepped in after Walt Disney pulled out - I’m sure with the back to winter release date they have plus that date being free of competition (for the time being anyway - although I’m pretty sure not many others would want to go head to head with a Narnia film) will go some way to getting the franchise back on some sort of track.

However only time will tell if Voyage of the Dawn Treader will do better than the last film - do you think it will?

New Terminator Salvation Trailer DeTAILS

If you woke up tomorrow to discover you were Christian Bale or Arnold Schwarzenegger, that would be kinda cool. But

if your doctor explained that you had been kidnapped by Skynet and replaced by a machine covered in human tissue?
Not so much.

In this, the third "Terminator Salvation" trailer, we get to know Mr. Marcus Wright. He is a man that the entire "Terminator" franchise will come to hinge upon and a man of many secrets. And now, it is time to begin unveiling the truth.

The song is The Day the Whole World Went Away by Nine Inch Nails

DOWNLOAD IN HD

NOT WORKING,PM ME,I WILL GIVE THE LINK,CLICK THIS

0:09: "We've been fighting a long time," says an ominous voice-over from Christian Bale, as we see glimpses of classic-looking Terminators being manufactured.

0:14: As the numbers "2018" fill the screen over a dead Terminator, Bale continues: "We are outnumbered, by machines."

0:19: "Humans have a strength that cannot be measured." We see something that looks like the world's biggest outdoor rave — in the rain — as Nine Inch Nails' "The Day the Whole World Went Away" kicks in. Something tells me, however, that this ain't no dance flick. Are they being imprisoned?

0:28: Our first shot of John Connor (Bale), finishing his thoughts as he recites them into some kind of recording device. "This is John Connor," he says, reflecting back on what he has seen.

0:31: Some sort of aircraft/spaceship over a desert landscape, watching another one.

0:34: "If you're listening to this, you are the resistance." We see a helicopter.

0:37: Now for the good part! The helicopter lands on a Terminator, and we see a military-boot-clad figure step out and finish the machine with a few gunshots to its head. As the music swells, the camera pulls back for the reveal: It's John Connor. Sure, we saw it in the last trailer — but it's still a cool shot.

0:42: "I thought I knew," he says as a tow truck plows through a wrecked car. "Something has changed."

0:46: Sadly, it's our only less-than-stellar shot of the trailer, as a motorcycle times its slide perfectly to go underneath the tumbling car. It's reminiscent of the big shot in the "Fast and Furious" trailer — and emblematic of Hollywood's new love affair (see "Wanted," "G.I. Joe") with laws-of-reality-defying CGI silliness.

0:49: "It's taking human prisoners," John explains as we see the giant Terminator from the earlier trailer, grabbing a human.

0:56: "It's replicating human tissue," he explains. "And in this future, I don't know that we can win this war."

0:59: Now we begin diving into the Sam Worthington character of Marcus Wright — a resistance soldier and central figure in "Salvation." We can see him injured and being rushed into some sort of emergency room, as Bryce Dallas Howard's Kate Connor (John's wife) says, "Let's see what we've got here," and tends to him. Realizing he isn't human, Wright is knocked unconscious.
1:07: "This thing is something we've never seen before," she says, terrified.

1:11: The restrained figure says: "My name is Marcus Wright."

1:15: "You think you're human?" John asks him.

1:18: "I am human," Wright responds. As the camera closes in on John haunted by shadows, he lets Wright free. The man screams out.

1:30: The battle resumes, as we see Terminators attacking and Marcus in various forms.

1:37: "What are you?" John shouts. Marcus replies, "I don't know."

1:42: A fighter plane goes past, dropping bombs on a battlefield.

1:45: Title card: "Forget the Past"

1:46: Wright throws a chair through a window, breaking out from a sort-of holding room.

1:47: Title card: "On May 21st"

1:49: Marcus runs; John fires a machine gun angrily.

1:50: Title card: "The end begins"

1:51: We see quick shots of a helicopter crashing, a Terminator chopped below the waist pulling itself and an explosion.

1:58: Moon Bloodgood with Marcus in the rain. Incidentally, this is the controversial topless scene that director McG may have to cut if he wants a PG-13.

1:59: A futuristic, armed-to-the-teeth chopper squares off with a car trying to cross a narrow bridge. It shoots the bridge in the middle.

2:03: "If we stay the course, we are dead!" John Connor barks into his radio. "We are all dead!" Am I the only one who can't help but imagine him screaming next: "Do you want me to go out and trash your lights?"

2:06: John kisses somebody who may or may not be his wife.

2:09: Machines, motorcycles and humans all square off in quick succession.

2:13: It all ends with a mushroom cloud.

2:15: The big reveal: Marcus Wright, exposed as a Terminator cyborg in a way reminiscent of how we've seen Arnold in the past, looks at John Connor and says: "I'm the only hope you've got."

2:20: The "exploding movie poster" reveals the film's apocalyptic logo.

THOR Movie Update

Rumors have been swirling for quite a while that Kevin McKidd might have been the man tapped to play the Norse God of Thunder: Thor. However based on a casting call notice for the lead in the film it looks like he’s out of the running.

McKidd is 34 years old and apparently the producers are looking for a younger actor for the role.

According to Corona Coming Attractions here’s what they’re looking for:

Male MUST BE MID-LATE 20′S and SIX FEET OR TALLER. LEAD.

Physically powerful, very handsome, occasionally egotistical, petulant, and wild. A natural warrior with a quick charming wit who must be genuinely and severly humbled before becoming the compassionate, mature her of our film.

This jives with an earlier rumor of the studio wanting a younger Thor, but clashes with earlier rumors of 40 year old Daniel Craig and McKidd being approached for the role. But hey, rumors are called that for a reason.

While I can’t picture Craig as Thor, I think McKidd would have looked great wielding Mjolnir. However the right late 20s six foot plus actor would definitely work.

As of right now it seems that filming is set to start this July.

So let’s get it going, barring an unknown - who do you think could wear the winged helmet?

Official Avengers And Iron Man Sequel Details

No rumors here folks - we’ve got some rock solid, straight from Marvel Studios news regarding the Avengers, Iron Man 2 & 3, Jon Favreau, Robert Downey Jr. and the final word on the the Don Cheadle replacing Terrence Howard story.

That’s a lot of stuff for one post!

Highlights:

* Robert Downey Jr. has signed a FOUR picture deal with Marvel Studios. Presumably this means two more Iron Man movies plus the Avengers film.
* Jon Favreau will direct Iron Man 2, but there’s no word at this time whether he will direct Iron Man 3. Favreau will not be directing Avengers, but will be Executive Producer on the film.
* It’s now official that Don Cheadle has replaced Terrence Howard as James Rhodes - not only in Iron Man 2 (and 3) but also in the Avengers movie. (Terrence Howard must be hating life right now.)
* It seems that Hulk will not be the villain in the Avengers movie, but he will be teaming up with Iron Man, Captain America, Thor (yes, Thor) and other unspecified superheroes to battle some formidable foe.
I know that many people wanted Jon Favreau to direct Avengers, but with the release dates of that film and Iron Man 2 just over a year apart, there was no way he could direct both (even though he wanted to). Personally I can’t wait until the details spill on the whole Marvel Studios/Terrence Howard fallout.

ROBERT DOWNEY JR. AND JON FAVREAU SUIT UP FOR MARVEL STUDIOS’ THE AVENGERS AND IRON MAN 2
As part of his four picture deal with Marvel Studios, Robert Downey Jr. is appearing as Tony Stark in THE AVENGERS motion picture, as well as reprising his starring role as the larger-than-life leading character in IRON MAN 2. Jon Favreau will return to direct the sequel to the blockbuster IRON MAN, which to date has grossed over $578 million worldwide, as well as executive produce THE AVENGERS.

Academy Award® nominee Downey was most recently seen in the summer comedy blockbuster TROPIC THUNDER starring opposite Ben Stiller and Jack Black. Before Iron Man, he was best known for his film roles in KISS KISS BANG BANG, WONDER BOYS and CHAPLIN, the film for which he was nominated for an Oscar®.

In addition to directing the first IRON MAN, Favreau has previously directed ELF, ZATHURA: A SPACE ADVENTURE and MADE. He is also well known for writing and starring in SWINGERS. He will next be seen acting in FOUR CHRISTMASES, I LOVE YOU MAN and COUPLES RETREAT.

DON CHEADLE WILL STAR AS RHODEY IN IRON MAN 2

Marvel Studios is pleased today to confirm that an agreement has been finalized with award-winning actor Don Cheadle to take on the role of Colonel James “Rhodey” Rhodes in Marvel’s IRON MAN 2 due in theaters on May 7, 2010. In casting Cheadle, Marvel replaces Terrence Howard who appeared in the role of Rhodey in Iron Man.

Cheadle is also signed on to perform the same role in THE AVENGERS and subsequent installments of the IRON MAN franchise.

“We are very excited about working with the extraordinarily talented Don Cheadle as we expand the role of Rhodey in Iron Man 2. It has already become apparent as we prep the movie for production, that the dynamic between Robert and Don will take Iron Man 2 to new heights,” said Kevin Feige, President of Marvel Studios.

Cheadle is best known for his Oscar® nominated lead performance in HOTEL RWANDA as well as his role as Basher Tarr in the OCEAN’S franchise, CRASH and SWORDFISH.

Based on Marvel’s iconic Super Hero, IRON MAN 2 continues the story of this summer’s box office blockbuster IRON MAN, the first feature film produced independently by Marvel Studios. IRON MAN 2 will be produced by Marvel Studios’ President, Kevin Feige, and executive produced by Louis D’Esposito, Jon Favreau, Stan Lee, David Maisel and Denis Stewart.

In a movie event, THE AVENGERS will bring together the super hero team of Marvel Comics characters for the first time ever, including Iron Man, Captain America, Thor, the Hulk and more, as they are forced to band together to battle the biggest foe they’ve ever faced.

The highly anticipated sequel to IRON MAN will be released in theatres on May 7, 2010 and THE AVENGERS will be released July 15, 2011. Both films will be distributed by Paramount Pictures.

Cloverfield 2 News!!!

It was confirmed more than a year ago that a Cloverfield sequel had been greenlit. It’s not surprising since the monster aspect of it is an idea that seems built for a franchise, it made a big profit at the box office ($170 million worldwide compared to a $25 million budget isn’t exactly a failure) and I’m pretty sure that they’re sure that a sequel would do even better.

And there’s been plenty of speculation on the fan’s part about what Cloverfield 2 would be like: Will it take place straight after the first one? Or before? Will it show the same events from the first film only from a different perspective? Would any of the characters from the first one make an appearance again? I’m sure all of this pleases Paramount very much - after all they relied on buzz for a lot of the success of the first one, did they not?

There have also been times where director Matt Reeves (who’s coming back for the sequel, along with writer Drew Goddard) has hinted at just where the sequel is in the development stage. Well at the Star Trek panel at WonderCon this year, producer J.J. Abrams gave us a bit more of a glimpse about what the Cloverfield 2 may be about:

“We’re actually working on an idea right now,” Abrams told the packed crowd. “The key obviously at doing any kind of sequel, certainly this film included, is that it better not be a business decision. If you’re going to do something, it should be because you’re really inspired to do it. It doesn’t really have to mean anything, doesn’t mean it will work, but it means we did it because we cared, not because we thought we could get the bucks. We have an idea that we thought was pretty cool that we’re playing with, which means there will be something that’s connected to ‘Cloverfield,’ but I hope it happens sooner than later because the idea is pretty sweet.”

Yeah right, J.J. - I’m sure that bit about making a sequel because “we cared” instead of money is entirely true…

Although I thought Cloverfield was one hell of a creative film for what it was, and a fun ride to say the least, I don’t think a sequel is entirely necessary. I mean as I said the monster aspect seems pre-built for a franchise but for Cloverfield particularly I think it worked as a one-shot thing and a sequel seems rather pointless at the moment.

However, who knows - maybe once we get more news about the nature of the sequel it may shape up to be something worthwhile. Although I will say that having the shaky/in-camera style again will just annoy people. It was a style that barely managed to hold the 80-plus minutes of runtime without getting irritating for most people (I’m one of the few who liked it and stuck with it until the very end), and so having it again would be a mistake.

What’s interesting is that Abrams said that this would be something, “connected to Cloverfield” - what exactly does that mean? That doesn’t exactly sound like part of a plan for a straight sequel, perhaps it’ll be only slightly connected but will go in a completely different direction. In that case it could be really cool - just take the basic idea and play around with it until you come up with something just as unique as the first film was.

What do you make of a Cloverfield sequel? Do you think the first film warrants anymore or should it be left as a one-shot flick?
